Look What the Lord Has Done!
Just wanted to give you a report of what the
Lord has done! First of all, God blessed this mission trip with 20 precious
souls for His kingdom. Although we had many different commitments during this
trip, our main concern was to see people saved and we praise the Lord for 20!
Our first commitments were at the Keith
Williams Bible College where Dan spoke at the Baccalaureate and Graduation. It
was so touching to see the 19 graduates get their diplomas and to see their
proud parents walk up with them because they have sacrificed so much so their
son/daughter can go through Bible College. Through your generous giving, we
were able to purchase study Bibles for each one of them. They were so grateful
when they received the Bibles. We were told that for some of them, this is a
once in a lifetime experience to get a good Bible. This is hard for us
Americans to imagine because we have so many Bibles in our homes.
The next commitment was at the ECOFI Annual
Pastors Conference where Dan taught an hour a day on "Building the
Winning Team." There were about 300 pastors and church leaders at the
conference who were so eager to learn. After the conference, we had four
services in Davao City and Manila. It was in these four services where 19
people found Jesus. The first salvation was on the plane, from Japan to
Manila.
Through your generous offerings, God also
enabled us to sow $2458.00 into various ministries in the Philippines
including scholarships, books, repairs, Bibles, etc. Glory to God!
A heartfelt note of thanks from the hearts
of Dan and Pearlyn
We want to take this opportunity to thank all
of you from the very bottom of our hearts for allowing God to use you to make
our mission trip possible. We could never thank you enough for your prayers,
your encouragements, and your financial support. You'll never know until you
get to heaven the extent of what you've done. Just let your imagination run a
little bit... God blessed this trip with 20 salvations. How many souls do you
think these 20 people will reach? How about the new graduates who received the
study Bibles? How many people will God save through their ministries? How
about the people who will hear about Jesus through future pastors because
scholarships were made available for them? Your faithfulness has enlarged the
kingdom of God and we thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts! We pray
and ask God to bless you abundantly for your faithfulness. Thank you so much!
Kids Theology
A little girl was talking to her teacher
about whales. The teacher said that it was physically impossible for a whale
to swallow a human being because even though it was a very large mammal, its
throat was very small. The little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a
whale. Irritated, the teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a
human; it was physically impossible. The little girl said, "When I get to
heaven I will ask Jonah." The teacher asked, "What if Jonah went to
hell?" The little girl replied, "Then you ask him."
Reflections
This trip to the Philippines was a miracle
trip for me. Just getting me on an airplane itself was a miracle. I've flown
before, but over the years developed a fear of flying (I know, fear is not of
God). But, after praying and seeking God and listening to what God was telling
me, the fear left. Praise God!
The trip was long and tiring. Immigrations
and customs took forever. After that, things started to really get
interesting. I learned don't touch knobs and don't get too excited about
things crawling over the ceilings. We arrived in Davao City and began to work
for God. If any of you reading this have ever been on a mission trip, then you
know the feelings I have. If you've never been on a mission trip, I encourage
you to go. You'll never be the same. What I saw was both exciting and
devastating. I saw a country that was more advanced in some things than we
are. I saw modern buildings and right beside them, slums. I saw people driving
nice vehicles and people pushing carts loaded with junk. Kids looking through
trash for something of value. We have some of the same things in our country
but sometimes it takes leaving and seeing it somewhere else to make us realize
it.
As we met and ministered to the graduates and
the pastors and the workers at the conference, the one thing that God showed
me was the contentment they had. The writer said in Hebrews 13:5 "to be
content with such things as you have." They were happy. The pastors make
around five or six U.S. dollars a month. If you feel led to help us with this
mission work in the Philippines, just mark your contribution,
"Philippines Work." Your gifts are tax deductible.
There is just not enough room to put down all
things we saw God do and the joy and tears that were shed. As we meet and come
together we will be able to share more with you. Thank you for all your
prayers as you partnered with us in this trip.
BEEP BEEP
Honk, Honk, Beep, Beep! These are the sounds
I won't forget too quickly. The first couple of days in Davao City I was, to
put it mildly, quite concerned about the way they drive there. There are no
stop signs and very few traffic lights. Most people don't pay attention to the
lights anyway. They just blow their horns and go. To me, it seemed like mass
confusion. There were times we even drove on the wrong side of the road. To
those who live there, it seemed natural. The strange thing was, the longer I
was there, the more I became OK with it. Stranger still, if we would have
stayed longer, I could see myself driving and doing the same things as they
did. I got to thinking about that as I was preparing this article. Life
sometimes resembles the traffic in the Philippines. We just "go and blow
our horns." As a passenger in the car in the Philippines, I trusted the
drivers. After all, I literally put my life in their hands.
I also got to thinking about life as a
Christian. I wonder if sometimes we appear as unorganized and confused in our
journey with the Lord to non-Christians, as the drivers in the Philippines
appeared to me and if that may be some of the reasons why it's difficult to be
a witness for Christ? The Bible says in I Corinthians 14:33a: "For God is
not the author of confusion." God has everything in perfect order. If we
would just seek and trust Him more, then our lives would begin to come into
perfect order with Him. Our walk and our talk would be in harmony with each
other and His Word.
As we returned to the USA, I realized how
thankful I am for organization. No longer will I sit at a traffic light and
complain because it didn't change quick enough. I'm thankful that I am not
bodily searched when I go into stores and restaurants. I thank God that He is
in control.
Until next time, Dan
