21st Century Evangelism
When
we look at what's going on in the world today, it can get us down if we let
it, but living in the 21st century has its advantages. The price of gas may
be at an all time high, food prices are going up but if you are a child of
God, our Heavenly Father promised He will take care of us. David said that
he has never seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging for bread. We
are closer now than ever to the second coming of Christ, which means an
eternity with Jesus, a real fairy tale come true, living happily ever after.
As a child of God, we are
more than blessed. We need to remember that with this privilege also comes
responsibilities. We hope when we share these things with you that we do not
come across hard, it's because of the great grace of God that has touched us
that we have this drive inside of us to win the lost.
Without a doubt, you
still have many loved ones, friends and neighbors who are lost. Can you
imagine them burning in hell forever? None of us who are still living has
ever seen a real hell. I wonder if it's because of that missing image of
hell that we don't have a burning passion within us to reach the lost. Will
you please just take a moment and picture this true story in your mind that
happened 11 years ago… A geologist from Hawaii fell into some lava at 2079
degrees up to his knees. He was wearing burn resistant clothing. Someone was
right there to pull him out within 5 seconds and he suffered 2nd degree
burns. Can you picture this in your mind? He was in burn resistant clothing
and was in there for only 5 seconds. When someone goes to hell, they will
not have burn resistant clothing on, they will not be there for only 5
seconds, they will be there burning forever and ever. They won't die either,
they'll live in that torment forever and ever. Nothing they could do will
ever bring them out of that torment. Can you imagine anyone in that kind of
torment? Hope you don't think we are trying to use a scare tactic but we
hope this fact sparks a burning passion within your heart for the lost
around you. The thought of this is what drives us to go and win the lost.
Today we have no excuse
for not evangelizing. There are too many tools available for us to use to
tell people about Jesus. We would like to share some of these tools with
you.
Tracts. What could be
easier than giving out a tract? You can hand them out, leave them in public
places like restrooms, restaurants or include one in the envelope when you
pay your bills.
A thoughtful card. There
are witness cards for all occasions available in bookstores today or just a
regular card with a tract in it or a handwritten salvation message. Send
them to an unsaved loved one or friend, or even friend of a friend. In your
local newspaper, there are usually birthday and anniversary announcements.
How about sending them a card with a short note sharing Christ or easier
yet, include a tract?
Telemarketers. I know
it's very easy to be upset with them because they always call at the most
inconvenient time. Have you ever considered that maybe God ordained these
calls? These could very well be divine appointments. This has happened to us
twice. Both were operators from India from our credit card company. Both
agreed to pray the sinner's prayer. The seed was planted and we trust that
God did a work in their hearts and will continue to do so.
Internet. There are
countless ways through this avenue.
An easy way is to invite
your friend or loved one to visit our website and click on Your Destiny.
This link takes them to a decision point and helps them through the sinner's
prayer.
Emails. Set up your
signature with John 3:16 and the sinner's prayer following that.
How about doing it the
way we used to do it? Open our mouth and ask the Holy Spirit to use us to
share the Good News.
The list goes on and on.
The main thing we have to remember is that God's Word will not return void.
What He expects us to do is to plant the seed, or maybe water the seed that
has already been planted, or maybe it's harvest time. God will honor your
desire and effort to win souls and He will bring forth a harvest, it may not
always be according to our timetable, but in His time, He will bring forth
the increase. Our job is to be obedient and let His Word go forth to
accomplish that which He intended it to do. There may not always be a
harvest but don't be discouraged, you have had a divine appointment and your
work was not in vain.
Before we start each day,
we need to ask God for divine appointments and He will see to it that we
have these special appointments. Our job is to share and it's the Holy
Spirit's job to draw them to the Father.
Greetings from Dan and Pearlyn...
Summer Greetings from
Pennsylvania! We are currently in the Western Pennsylvania area ministering
in revivals. After this, we will be home for 9 days and then will leave
again for 3 1/2 weeks for ministries in South Dakota, Ohio, Western
Pennsylvania and Maryland. We once again covet your prayers. Please pray for
God's presence to be so prevalent in every service. We know we are in the
last days and we need to reach as many as we can before they slip into an
eternity in hell! Please pray for safety and traveling mercies for us also.
A few days before we left
for this trip, Dan was in an accident. Although the car suffered quite a bit
of damage, we thank God for His divine protection and provision, Dan was not
injured. We were also able to rent a car so we could go on with God's
kingdom work, praise the Lord! Sometimes it is hard to understand why God
would allow certain things to happen, especially when we were getting ready
to leave for ministry commitments, but we know that in God's perfect will,
He has allowed this to happen for a reason. Our steps are ordered by the
Lord, and it will all work together for good. Who knows, maybe through this
accident, we'll be able to tell someone about Jesus whom otherwise we would
not have met. How blessed we are to be children of our Heavenly Father, who
is Omnipresent, Omniscient and Omnipotent! And to think He loves and cares
for us so much, wow, what an awesome privilege! He is worthy of all praise!
Laughter... Good for
the Soul
Kids' Opinions: Funeral
While walking along the
sidewalk in front of his church, the minister heard the prayer that nearly
made his collar wilt. Apparently, his 5-year-old son and his playmates had
found a dead robin. Feeling that proper burial should be performed, they had
secured a small box and cotton batting, dug a hole and made ready for the
disposal of the deceased. The minister's son was chosen to say the
appropriate prayers and with sonorous dignity intoned his version of what he
thought his father always said: 'Glory be unto the Fa-a-a-ther, and unto the
Son-n-n, and into the hole he go-o-o-es.'
Kids' Opinions: Elderly
While working for an
organization that delivers lunches to elderly shut-ins, I used to take my
4-year-old daughter on my afternoon rounds. She was unfailingly intrigued by
the various appliances of old age, particularly the canes, walkers and
wheelchairs. One day I found her staring at a pair of false teeth soaking in
a glass. As I braced myself for the inevitable barrage of questions, she
merely turned and whispered, 'The tooth fairy will never believe this!

There Is Mercy for You
I was coming home the
other day and saw a sign that said, "There is mercy for you." This came from
Psalms 130:7 which said in part, "For with the Lord there is mercy."
I got to thinking about
that and was reminded by the Holy Spirit of how great the mercy of God is.
Without His mercy, I, and you also, would have been doomed. Psalms 108:4
tells us His mercy is great above the heavens. Ephesians 2:4-5 says, "But
God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,
even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by
grace you have been saved)."
God, who is RICH in
mercy, that tells me there is an everlasting supply. There is no bottom to
the well of His mercy and grace.
Because of His GREAT
love, this tells me there is no love above His love. His love is all
sufficient and with His great love He loved us when we were unlovable. When
we had the stench of death on us, when our flesh was already in the rotting
stages of sin, He loved us.
He made us alive, not
only alive, but alive together with Christ. It doesn't matter what you have
done or what you have not done, His mercy and grace is sufficient, together
with His great love, to cover all of our sins and trespasses when we come to
Him and ask forgiveness.
I wonder how many times
God has spoken to you through a road sign. Road signs can be found all along
our journey. Whether or not we are living for Him, we are on a journey.
Proverbs 14:12 tells us, there is a way that seems right to a man but the
end is the way of death.
Time Ministries recently
received a gift of a GPS. I would plan a route to a church we will be
ministering in. As we go, sometimes I miss the turns. The GPS will re-route
our trip and get us back on course. Sometimes though when that is not
possible, it will say very sternly, "Turn around now." The Holy Spirit is
like a spiritual GPS, He will route your path and tell you where to turn. He
will even warn you ahead of the turns that are coming. You have a choice to
get ready or to ignore His instructions. Maybe, just maybe, we should pay a
little more attention to the "road" signs.
Until next time, Dan
