Philippine Report - Fall 2010
Happy
New Year to all of you!
This is a long overdue newsletter. We left Bedford on September 3rd for
ministries in the Midwest and the Philippines, came home and went right into
revival services at Healing Waters Church of God and Finleyville Union
Church. From there we went to minister at the Ravenna Salvation Army in
Ohio. It has been a very busy few months but we rejoice and give our Lord
all the glory for what He has done!
After ministering in the Midwest for 2 weeks, we returned to Ohio and flew
to the Philippines from Cleveland on September 27th. We arrived in Manila on
the 28th at almost midnight, spent a couple of days adjusting to their time
which is 12 hours ahead of the Eastern Standard Time then flew to Davao City
on October 1st.
October 2nd, ministry started at Davao GH Office Depot. Dan preached to over
100 employees who gathered and 16 of them accepted the Lord, praise God!
October 3rd, we drove a couple of hours to Panabo City to minister at the
City Church's Thanksgiving Service. Their Thanksgiving is nothing like ours,
no turkeys, no stuffing. The congregation brought offerings of fruits,
vegetables and 10 pigs. The church building, more like a hut, was packed,
with people standing outside. 3 people gave their hearts to the Lord.
October 4th and 5th, we spent the days getting Bibles, guitars, workbooks
for the seminars and rice ready for distribution.
October 6th, Pearlyn ministered to the Keith Williams Bible College students
on 'Love and Courtship, God's Way.' By the grace of God, the material taught
really spoke to them and they asked if they can use it to teach others.
Praise God!
October 7th, Dan did a seminar on 'At The Altar Counseling' with the KWBC
students. Every student was anointed to serve as counselors at the upcoming
crusade.
October 8th, Evangelistic Crusade at Mintal where 64 people accepted Jesus
as their Lord and Savior. Many times when we see people come to Christ, we
rejoice but deep down, we also have a concern, the follow-up of the new
converts. We are so thrilled that they are starting a new church with the
new converts from this crusade. Following the crusade, we went to the
pastor's home to dedicate their house to use as a temporary church.
October 9th, we travelled to see the Faith Bible Fellowship Church in
Bukidnon to help them with ways to improve their property to make it more
convenient for the members. The church currently has a dirt floor. A steep
hill leads to the church and it was raining very hard when we were there and
walking down to the church was very difficult and very slippery.
October 10th, we travelled 3 hours south to General Santos City to minister
at the Good News Center where 3 people accepted the Lord.
October 11th, ECOFI Midyear Conference started with more than 260 pastors in
attendance. Dan officiated communion for the pastors on the opening night.
October 12th-14th, Dan preached two revivals, and taught three sessions on
leadership. It's amazing to see the pastors sitting at the edge of their
seats, just drinking it in. During this time, Pearlyn spoke at the ECOFI
Pastors' Wives Conference on becoming the Extraordinary Pastor's Wife God
has called them to be.
During this conference, through your help, we were able to distribute 96
English Cebuano Bibles, 14 guitars and 990 pounds of rice to pastors and
pastors' wives. All this would not have been possible without you.
October 15th-17th, we had debriefing meetings with some of the leaders,
packed up and flew home on the 19th. It was a jam packed trip.
We left the Philippines rejoicing over at least 89 people whose eternal
destinies have been altered, from hell to heaven. We give God all the glory
for what has been accomplished. We thank you so much for making it possible
for us to go and share the Good News. We thank you for providing the Bibles
and guitars for the pastors so they can minister more effectively. You will
have a part of every soul every one of these pastors win. Your rewards are
great!
Time flies. It seems like we just returned
from the Philippines and we are now planning on returning again in about two
months. God has called and confirmed His call for us to go back again in
March. This time we will be there for 2 months, departing Bedford on March
3rd and returning on May 3rd.
The population of the Philippines is 92
million. Our ministries will primarily be in the southern part of the
country, the Mindanao region. This region has a population of 22 million,
55% Roman Catholics, 28% Muslims, 12% cults and 5% Evangelicals. You see, we
have our work cut out for us. There are several fast growing local cults
such as Iglesia Ni Christo, Quiboloy, and Dating Daan. The Filipinos are
very receptive to anything that gives them hope. A window of opportunity is
open in the Philippines right now to share the true Hope in Jesus Christ and
to equip pastors to go and do the same. We believe God has called us to go
because of this golden opportunity that's there right now which we don't
know how long it will remain open.
Ministries will include the Keith Williams
Bible College, ECOFI Pastors' Conference, ECOFI Pastors' Wives Conference,
Davao Bible College, Church of God Camp Meeting, the National Youth
Conference, the National Couple's Conference plus ministries in various
churches and events. We should have our itinerary finalized by the end of
January.
We have many invitations, but due to time
limits, it would be impossible to fulfill every one of them. Also, Mindanao
is not a safe part of the country so for safety reasons, there are many
areas that we will not be going to but God has given us opportunities to
equip the pastors from these areas so they can go and share the Gospel.
As we do each spring, we will be
distributing Thompson Chain Bibles, English Cebuano Bibles, guitars,
Minister's Handbook, workbooks and rice to Bible College students and
pastors.
The US dollar value has dropped considerably in the past two years so Bibles
and guitars cost a lot more than they did. If you would like to be a part of
this ministry project, or want to give a Bible or guitar in honor or memory
of someone, the Thompson Chain Bibles are $59, English-Cebuano Bibles are
$17 and Guitars are $40.
The KWBC Girls' Dormitory does not have a
shower, they draw water into a big cup and pour it over themselves as a
shower, one cup at a time. Next time we get in our showers, let's picture
the way these students shower. I'm quite sure it will give us a surge of
gratefulness to our Heavenly Father for the blessings that He has given us.
After seeing this last October, God gave us the desire to build some showers
for them so they can shower with decency.
The need for even basic necessities goes on
and on. We know there is no way the ministry can ever meet all these needs
but we will continue to do what God has called us to do, meet their greatest
need, salvation through Jesus Christ and equip pastors so they can go and do
likewise.
None of these things would be possible without you. No words can ever
express the gratitude in our hearts and in the hearts of the countless
people whose lives have been eternally touched for Jesus because of you.
We're again asking you to please cover us
in prayers, we are very desperate for your prayers. We need the presence of
God to go before us and with us because without Him, none of these would be
accomplished. We've seen our God move in mighty ways, souls getting saved,
lives being touched and encouraged for Jesus, pastors equipped to go share
the Gospel, discouraged pastors encouraged to continue on to fulfill God's
call on their lives, provisions made for the expansion of God's kingdom, the
list of blessings goes on and on. There is no doubt in our hearts that these
things are taking place for God's glory because of your prayers. Thank you!
Laughter... Good for the Soul
Tonsillectomy
A family was on the way to the hospital
where their teenager was scheduled to undergo a tonsillectomy. During the
ride they discussed how
the procedure would be performed.
"Dad," the teenager asked, "how are they going to keep my mouth open during
the surgery?"
Without missing a beat his father replied, "They're going to give you a
phone."
Great Is Our God's Faithfulness
For the glory of God, we celebrated 7 years in ministry last December
28th. God has been faithful and continues to be, every time. We give God
praise for all that He has done!
As we look back, making that commitment to answer God's call to go into the
ministry was not easy, we tried to ignore the call, thinking it might go
away, but it didn't. Thank the Lord for His mercy, He confirmed the call
over and over and over again until we stepped out in faith and obedience.
God's faithfulness has been very evident in
the past seven years in ministry. We stand amazed each time we look at what
He has done and is still doing.
God's faithfulness has been evident in your
partnership with us through your faithful prayers, encouragements and
support.
His faithfulness has been evident in the
lives of at least 1670 people who have given their hearts to the Lord.
His faithfulness has been evident when He
called us to go to the Philippines to accomplish the work He has set before
us and we wondered 'How are we going to do this?'. And by His grace, and
through your prayers and support, the task God has set before us each time
has been accomplished. Pastors in the Philippines have been equipped to go
and share the Gospel. Until we get to heaven, we can't even begin to imagine
how many has come to the Lord through them.
We can go on and on and share many more testimonies about His faithfulness
but time and space on this newsletter will fail us. We give God all the
glory for He is worthy of all our praise!
Until next time, Dan
