Souls for Jesus!

What an awesome God we serve! We had quite
an eventful mission trip from beginning to end. All throughout the trip, we
saw the hand of God on our lives and the Holy Spirit going before us to
prepare the way.
April 7th, we arrived at the Canton airport
for departure to the Philippines at 11:40am. Our flight was cancelled due to
mechanical problems and then rescheduled to 6:40pm. Late morning, a heavy
snowstorm started to move into the area. All flights from Canton Airport
were cancelled. We were shuttled to the Cleveland airport for a flight out
on April 8th at 7:00am. We boarded the plane, taxied out onto the runway and
then the captain came on and said that the weather was too bad, we'll have
to deplane. This flight and all other flights were cancelled and the airport
was closed. We were rescheduled to fly out the next day at 9:00am. At around
5:00pm the day before, this flight was cancelled too. We were on the phone
with the airlines for hours and the earliest flight they could get us on was
on April 13th, which would mean arrival on the 15th, our commitments started
on the 10th. During this time, we were starting to feel discouraged and
began to wonder if it was really God's will for us to go. We know many
prayers were going up on our behalf. God put a Christian airline employee in
our path. He worked with us because he said he wanted to be a part of our
mission trip and scheduled us on a special flight which was added and the
only flight that was to take off the following morning, all other flights
remained cancelled. April 9th, 7:00am, the flight took off as scheduled.
Praise the Lord!
After 3 ˝ days, we finally arrived in Davao City, the beginning of a
God-blessed trip.
Due to the delays, Dan missed two speaking
engagements at the Keith Williams Bible College but we were still able to
present your gifts of a Minister's Handbook and $25 to each graduate and
Bibles for the Freshmen. The next day was the ECOFI Workers' Conference with
404 delegates plus children in attendance. Dan ministered heavily on soul
winning, as you know, this is where our heart is. During the conference,
Pearlyn also spoke to the Pastor's Wives at their First Ladies' Conference
with more than 60 in attendance. We also had the opportunity to minister at
the Davao Bible College and several churches in the Mindanao and Luzon
areas. Through your support, we were able to make up 87 treat bags filled
with candy bars, cookies, candies, juice boxes and other treats to give to
the children. The gospel was shared during this time. Praise God several
kids and parents accepted the Lord. We also ministered at the Davao GH
Office Depot where more than 100 employees gathered and the gospel was
ministered.
Whatever opportunities God gives us, it is
the desire of our hearts to see souls saved. On this trip, we stood back in
awe with grateful hearts and watched our awesome God accomplish what He did.
We left the Philippines rejoicing over what He has done and how His grace
reached 193 people who gave their hearts to Him and are now on their way to
heaven. Praise the Lord and all glory to God! This made the whole trip
worthwhile.
Through your donations, a total of 41 Thompson Chain Bibles and 20 guitars
were given to Pastors and Bible College students, books were provided for
their libraries, treats given to the kids and materials provided for the
conference. These were times when we very much wished you were there to
witness the joy and gratefulness of their hearts, and ours too. We received
many notes of thanks on how God answered their prayers through you by
providing them with the gift.
We did not have enough Bibles and guitars
to give to each and every Pastor or Student so we gave them out as prizes.
When each name was called, the cheers and the joy from the winners and the
audience just touched our hearts.
We thank you so much for making it possible
for us to go and share Jesus with them. Your labor of love for the Lord does
not stop with the 193 people who accepted the Lord, it will go on and on as
they go out to witness for the Lord. As the Pastors, who received your gifts
of Bibles, books, guitars, etc. go out to minister, you also have a part of
the harvest of their ministries. Your gifts will keep going and going to
make eternal differences. Only eternity will reveal the impact you have made
for Jesus! Thank you!
Laughter… Good for the Soul
Funeral Instructions: An elderly woman died last month. Having
never married, she requested no male pallbearers. In her handwritten
instructions for her memorial service, she wrote, "They wouldn't take me out
while I was alive, I don't want them to take me out when I'm dead."
Church Announcement: A preacher who got up one Sunday and announced to his
congregation: "I have good news and bad news. The good news is, we have
enough money to pay for our new building program. The bad news is, it's
still out there in your pockets."
The Boasting Boys: Three boys are in the schoolyard were bragging about their
fathers. The first boy says, "My Dad scribbles a few words on a piece of
paper, he calls it a poem, they give him $50." The second boy says, "That's
nothing. My Dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, he calls it a
song, they give him $100." The third boy says, "I got you both beat. My Dad
scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, he calls it a sermon. And it
takes eight people to collect all the money!"
Greetings from Dan and Pearlyn...
With grateful hearts, we bring you
greetings from our home to yours, and from the many Filipinos whose lives
you have touched for eternity! Many times during the trip, how we wished you
could have been there with us to witness for yourself what the Lord was
doing through you. Many lives will never again be the same since the love of
God has touched them. We praise the Lord for His love, His grace and His
faithfulness that has made it possible for us to make this fourth trip to
the Philippines to minister. The opportunities to minister there are
endless, there is such a hunger for God. Before we left for the Philippines,
we had been seeking God, praying and fasting for the mission trip. We also
know that many of you have been praying on our behalf. The foremost thing we
asked of God was for many souls for His kingdom, to be more specific, we
asked for 200 and the Lord proved His faithfulness and blessed this trip
with 193 souls, to God be all the glory! Thank you so much for your prayers
and support, your reward in heaven is great!
The Lord has again opened the door for us
to go back in 2009. There are many invitations for us to go minister in
different areas. We want to be sure that we go where God wants us to, so we
continue to covet your prayers. Your love and prayers have encouraged us,
kept us and lifted us so many times during this trip. We thank you from the
bottom of our hearts! We have and will continue to pray God's bountiful
blessings on your lives.
Mission Trip Pictures
A picture is worth
a thousand words. Our website has just been updated with pictures from our
2008 Mission Trip to the Philippines. Since we were not able to bring you to
the Philippines with us, the best we can do is share our pictures with you
to give you a glimpse of the trip. Click on Ministry in Action to see them.
Go and Make Disciples
One of the last things Jesus said to us
when He left was to go and make disciples (Matt 28:19). We are missing this
big time here in America. We have become so focused on our priorities that
we have misplaced and/or shoved the instructions from Jesus into a closet
somewhere.
What a refreshing time it was when we visited some of the churches in the
Philippines and saw that their main goal was winning souls, above all else.
We saw banners hanging in the front of churches that said,
"Win-Consolidate-Disciple-Send", others said, "Win The Lost At Any Cost",
they are doing that. Some of the churches are using the G12 cell group
ministry. They train a cell leader and along with one core person from the
church, they go and bring 10 new people into their group through prayer and
contact. They share Jesus with them and bring them to salvation. They then
conduct Bible studies with them and after a period of time bring them into
the church where they get involved in ministry. They in turn are trained and
sent out to start a new G12 cell group. They are winning souls for Jesus.
God is blessing these churches because they are about their Father's
business. They are growing and multiplying.
We visited one church that was just built
and they are already looking to enlarge it because they outgrew it in a
short time. They have discovered one important thing in doing kingdom work,
there is no shortage of sinners. Sinners are everywhere. It's time we, in
America, get our blinders off, look at the sinners around us, and start
asking God for divine appointments.
One of the things I asked in the
services when I was ministering was, when you are riding in a jeepney or on
a tricycle or in a bus and you look at the person next to you, ask this
question, "Is this person going to heaven or hell?" Then I asked them to
tell themselves, "Where they go depends on me". In America, we don't have jeepnies, tricycles or buses that we ride everyday, but we do work beside
people, eat beside people, go through check out counters in stores or talk
to neighbors, I think you are getting the idea. Is this person going to
heaven or hell? Where they go depends on me. Isn't it time we start "Making
Disciples" like Jesus asked us to in Matthew, Mark, Luke and Acts?
Until next time, Dan
